Ultrasonic nebulization inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry method for wine analysis

Abstract A methodology was developed to determine mineral elements in wines using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry combined with ultrasonic nebulization. The concentration of 36 elements (Al, B, Ba, Bi, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Dy, Er, Eu, Fe, Gd, K, La, Lu, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Nd, Ni, Pb, Pr, Sb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Tb, Ti, Tm, V, Y, Yb, and Zn) was determined in 59 wine samples and used to distinguish between Brazilian and Spanish wines. Cryptotephra (particles <125μm) is a key record for monitoring past and current volcanic activity. However, its extraction from the host sediment and analysis is often long and difficult because of its small size. A preliminary approach to mineral intake in the Spanish diet established from analysis of the composition of university canteen menus

Abstract The concentration of mineral elements in complete menus has in Spain been determined in order to establish the levels of essential and toxic elements and their contribution to the maximum recommended intake. Thirteen university canteen menus obtained from the Burjassot campus, in Valencia, were analysed to establish a first approach on mineral composition in the Spanish diet. The menus were composed of a mixture of cereals, meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Formation of calcium containing minerals in the low temperature dolomite ceramics

In order to elaborate low temperature dolomite ceramics, potentially suitable for the production of building materials, local low carbonate clay and dolomite siftings were used as a raw materials. Relationship between mechanical properties, mineral composition and firing temperature kept in the range of 600-800° C were established. According to the obtained data it was detected that the optimal burning temperature, giving the highest crushing strength (40 MPa) was around 700-750° C, optimal proportion of dolomite and clay expressed as ratio between CaO and Al2O3 - 2.5 wt%. Globe artichoke has been long considered a nutraceutical food for its valuable content of bioactive compounds. However, beside a well-known polyphenol profile, poor information is available about its metabolite and mineral composition. The aim of this study was to investigate edible parts of Sicilian artichokes, ‘Spinoso di Menfi’ and ‘Violetto di Niscemi’, by 1H NMR and ICP-MS for elucidating these compositional aspects.
